The internet offers endless possibilities for gathering information and making contacts. Here is a small selection that I have found very useful over the years.
- For bayonet markings : www.radix.net/~bbrown/brit_bayo.html
- Another excellent site for for identifying unusual unit marks on British and Commonwealth bayonets:
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/help/abbreviations-unit.asp
- Dennis Ottobre's (just call me Otto) commercial militaria site offers an abundance of information : www.ebayonet.com
- For those whos interests extend to swords, there is always something new on offer at British Military
Swords : www.britishmilitaryswords.co.uk
- Collector Carl Ziegler's site - dedicated to bayonet collecting and related interests. Lots of good information to share, and actively
updated : www.old-smithy.info
- Specialist bayonet collector Erwin Meutstege maintains an excellent site for collectors of Dutch bayonets at http://www.muetstege.com/with
a great selection of contemporary photographs and information.
- If you have ever wondered just how your bayonet was carried in service, a 'must visit' is Karkee Web : http://www.karkeeweb.com/
Continually updated with information, and an excellent source of knowledge, the owners also welcome details of items not already profiled.
- But there is no substitute for real face to face interaction with fellow collectors, and none provides the opportunity better than "The Society of American Bayonet
Collectors" : www.bayonetcollectors.org/
The SABC annual meeting at the Marlyland Antique Arms Collectors Association show every March in Baltimore has also become the largest global gathering of bayonet collectors each year.
Well worth the trip.
